Summary: | Introduction : Dyslipidemia is a disruption or changes in blood lipid levels, include
increased of total cholesterol levels or hypercholesterolemia, decreased of High Density
Lipoprotein (HDL) levels, increased of Low Density Lipoprotein (LDL) levels, increased of
triglyceride levels in the blood or hypertriglyceride. Replacement of saturated fatty acids
with unsaturated fatty acids in the diet can decrease total cholesterol level and LDL
without decrease HDL levels so as to reduce the risk of coronary heart disease. Wagyu
(Japanese beef term) refers to the offspring of cattle that causes marbling effects and the
production of a high percentage of unsaturated fat. Meat from wagyu cattle is known
worldwide because of the marblings characteristics, increased eating quality through
improved natural flavor, tenderness and juice levels and high market value. Wagyu cattle
gene cause results on beef containing a high percentage of omega 3 and omega 6 than
any other beef.
Objective : To know the effect of wagyu beef on LDL levels, HDL, total cholesterol and
triglyceride Sprague dawley rats.
Method : The type of this research is experimental with pre test-post test and control
group design in laboratorium. The subject of this research is 18 Sprague dawley rats,
were divided into three groups that have the specifications of the male, age 60 days,
weight 200 grams and are in good health (active and not disabled). Adaptation is
performed for 7 days, after that the rats LDL levels, HDL, total cholesterol and triglyceride
are checked early. Then the rats were fed a high-fat diet for 23 days. Then the LDL
levels, HDL, total cholesterol and triglyceride are checked again. Later the rats were
divided into 3 groups of 6 each rats, control group were fed only with the standard AIN-
93, treatment group were fed with standard AIN-93 and wagyu beef as much as 2 g/200 g
weight and treatment group were fed with standard AIN-93 and wagyu beef as much as 4
g/200 g weight. Then LDL levels, HDL, total cholesterol and triglyceride were checked as
the final result.
Result : Adding wagyu beef in Sprague dawley rats with a dose of 4 g/200 g weight
effects on decreasing total cholesterol levels (p > 0,05), increasing LDL levels (p > 0,05),
decreasing HDL levels (p < 0,05) and increasing triglyceride (p > 0,05). Adding wagyu
beef with a dose of 2 g/200 g weight effects on increasing total cholesterol levels (p >
0,05), increasing LDL levels (p > 0,05), increasing HDL levels (p > 0,05) and increasing
triglyceride (p > 0,05).
Conclusion : Wagyu beef can decrease total cholesterol levels and increase HDL levels
in Sprague dawley rats. |
