Description
Summary:Classroom interaction has been considered one of the most important pedagogical research topics in language classrooms in recent decades, mostly due to the influence of the Russian psychologist Lev Vygotsky. Interactions in language classrooms are important social activities for students through which they not only construct knowledge, but also build confdence and identity as competent language users. Many research methodologies have been employed to investigate English language teaching (ELT) classroom interaction. This paper aims to provide a review of the conceptualization of classroom interaction. It also states the conception of classroom interaction from second language acquisition theories. Besides reviewing defnitions of classroom interaction, this paper also focuses on how ELT classroom interactions have been researched in the literature. From that, researches in relation to classroom interaction in classes that use English as a medium of instruction (EMI) are presented.
