The chemical analysis of Omega-3 fatty acid and cadmium in caulerpa lentillifera using High Performance Liquid Chromatography and Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy

Seaweeds samples were prepared by air drying and were left for about three weeks to dry. The lipid and heavy metal contents of this edible seaweed were determined using High Performance Liquid Chromatography and Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy, respectively. In the lipid analysis, samples were extracted using a mixture chloroform and methanol, a mixture of chloroform and water and 5% NaCl solution. The chloroform layer was obtained for each sample and was allowed to evaporate. Fish oil was used as the standard prior to the analysis of the samples. In heavy metal analysis, samples were pulverized and were subjected to acid digestion using nitric acid. All of the samples analyzed showed a presence of a dominant peak which could possibly correspond to Triacyllglycerol (TAG) with OMEGA-3 fatty acids. The heavy metal analysis confirmed that cadmium is present in the samples analyzed. 2014-01-01T08:00:00Z text https://animorepository.dlsu.edu.ph/etd_bachelors/9414 Bachelor's Theses English Animo Repository Omega-3 fatty acids Omega-6/omega-3 fatty acid ratio Cadmium
