Summary: | The effect of different levels of shade and Indole-3-Acetic Acid (IAA) treatment on the seedling growth of Theobroma cacao Linn. were observed in this study. The levels of shade were 0 percent, 20 percent 40 percent and 60 percent while the concentration auxin that was applied was 1 mg/L.Increments of growth parameters such as seedling height, leaf number, young and mature leaf area, were significantly highest at 40 percent shade and with auxin treatment, and lowest at 0 percent shade and 60 percent shade without auxin treatment. IAA had no significant effect on the number of leaves. Seedlings grown under 0 percent shade with IAA treatment had the highest sugar, starch and protein concentration in leaves while those under 60 percent shade without IAA treatment had the lowest. |
