Gonzales, Alexandra Jane C. Hechanova, Patricia Elexis C. Since the mid-1980s, the ukay-ukay industry in the Philippines has grown into a nationwide phenomenon extending its geographical coverage to Metro Manila and other parts of Visayas and Mindanao. Now, more and more Filipinos are joining in the ukay-ukay trade--serving not only the financially-constrained CDE markets but also the variety-seeking AB customers. Focusing on the stories of three different ukay-ukay buyers in the Philippines, this paper argues that the ukay-ukay phenomenon's audience is not limited to those who are having a hard time coping with finances. The project explores other possible motivations of ukay-ukay consumers in buying goods. By comparing and contrasting the different personalities and motivations of the subjects: the fashionista, the shopaholic and the practical one, the documentary shows the diversity of those engaged in the ukay-ukay phenomenon. 2009-01-01T08:00:00Z text https://animorepository.dlsu.edu.ph/etd_bachelors/8599 Bachelor's Theses English Animo Repository Used clothing industry--Philippines Secondhand trade--Philippines
