This study gathers and records the folk literature from the three ethnic groups in Nueva Vizcaya--Gaddang, Isinay, and Ilongot translates a representative sample of each type of material so that the translation can be used for instructional purposes analyzes them in accordance with conceptual reading and to be specific, through the four functions of folklore of Bascom grasps the psychological nature of the natives as revealed by their literature for a better understanding of these groups and analyzes the importance of the translated materials in enriching the experiential knowledge of students.The three types of folklore--folktales, folklore, and folk songs--are adequately represented in this study. The thiry-eight (38) tales are categorized as myths, legends and folk stories. Of the two hundred thirty (230) folklores, there are one hundred fifty-five (155) riddles and seventy-five (75) sayings or proverbs. Of the sixty-one (61) folk songs, the writer made use of one ballad, Our Song for Mother Santa Catalina, and sixty (60) lyric songs. One year data gathering involved research of the personal and published collections and interviews with the members of the stated cultural communities. The collected materials are translated into Filipino through the assistance of an educated native who is also fluent in Filipino. The translated materials are analyzed according to the four functions of folklore as expounded by Bascom. The functions are to entertain, to instruct, to reinforce culture and to serve as a force in society in order to ensure the natives' compliance with the tribes regulations.
