Summary: | This Integrated Action Research addressed the issue of lack of competency of the members of the financial accounting team, with an ultimate goal to deliver excellent quality of services to our business partners worldwide. The objectives of this paper include enhancing the skills and expanding the knowledge of the team members, improving the current back-up system of the team and preventing process related incidents. In addition to the root cause analysis and one-on-one interview sessions conducted with the team members, the issue was identified through the use of action research tools which includes the ladder of inference, active inquiry and the ORJI. Guided by the CGMA Competency Framework, De Vos, De Hauw and Willemses Integrative Model of Competency Development and the ADDIE Framework, we determined that the interventions deemed appropriate to address the issue includes training and on-the-job learnings of critical processes, which were done in the first cycle. Knowledge sharing sessions with the whole team were also conducted in the second cycle. In addition, the ADKAR model was used to guide the changes done by the team throughout this action research. Through constant collaboration, the team and I were able to improve the technical competency of the team within two action research cycles. The success of this action research greatly relied with the cooperation and participation of my teammates. Collaboration with them was needed from constructing of the issue until the evaluation of the interventions done. In this action research, I learned the importance of teamwork, respect for different opinions and open communication in the workplace. In addition, I grew professionally and developed my communication and interpersonal skills better. Lastly, further efforts were recommended to make sure the continuous development of competencies of the team members are done through further trainings, on-the-job learnings and reassessments of skills. Another recommendation was the creation of a comprehensive checklist for the appropriate skills required, which aims to assist the competency development of the team members, as well as its future members. |
