Summary:This action research project addresses the issue of ineffective communication among our management team that affects our operations and interpersonal relationships. The main goal is to improve effectiveness and efficiency in communication in our startup company. By using frameworks on business communication that discusses communication challenges of management teams, we were able to understand the issues present in our team that we needed to address. We analyzed our communication needs and aligned them with the tools that were available to us. We also adapted systematic procedures in management of meetings to improve the efficiency of our face-to-face meetings. Upon completion of two action research cycles, we were able to improve management communication by establishing periodic management face-to-face meetings following proper procedures. This aids us in achieving common understanding of information needed for our decision-making. The whole project was made possible through the collaborative efforts of the management team. My own reflections, observations of our group dynamics, inquiries in one-on-one and group discussions are all vital to the data gathering, aside from the theories from journal articles that were used in the process. Through this action research project, I realized and experienced first-hand that communication is indeed a key factor in the success of an organization. My partners and I have developed better relationships as business co-owners. Most importantly, in communicating effectively, we, as a team, are more capable in providing value to our stakeholders.
