Summary: | This paper presented parents' reasons for choosing a special school considering child characteristics, family characteristics and school characteristics, their perception on parents' communication in their child's schooling and satisfaction in terms of achievement of their child, the present school and teachers. A descriptive-correlational research design was employed. Total number of respondents is 54 parents of children with mild mental retardation from age 9 to 15 and had enrolled their child in a private special school for at least one year. This study is confined to four private special schools in Quezon City, namely P. M. Calamba Learning Center, Integrative School of Quezon City, Bridges Foundation, Inc. and Center for Developmental Intervention Foundation, Inc. A self-structured questionnaire was administered to the respondents. Correlational statistics were used to find out if parents' perception on their communication in their child's schooling is related to satisfaction from achievement of their child, the present school and school teachers. The results showed that parents of children with mild mental retardation who have chosen private special schools considering child characteristics, family characteristics and school characteristics perceived a positive relationship between parents' perception on their communication in their child's schooling and satisfaction in terms of their child's achievement, the present school and teachers (r 0.70). The overall mean score of (x 3.25) was obtained which indicates that respondents agree that parents should communicate in their child's schooling and were satisfied (x 3.25) with the achievement of their child, the present school where their child is enrolled and with the teachers |
