This action research discusses challenges in business process improvements in emerging businesses in the Philippines. Moreover, this paper addresses issues regarding implementation and sustaining efforts to improve business processes. Methods used are based on Coghlan and Brannick’s (2014) action research cycles. The objective to reduce overtime hours and payroll expense in the company was met through action research. The research also encompassed my personal transformation illustrated through the use of ORJI Framework, ladder of inference, left hand column, and Mezirow’s Meta-Learning Cycle. The data generation cited in this paper are in congruence with Schein’s three types of inquiry, Torbert’s Four Parts of Speech, and Lewin’s Force Field Analysis. To further support this study, the DMAIC model served as guide in our interventions and other scholarly articles were used as our third person inquiry. We were able to improve the business processes through improving business processes and replaced the activities with automated tasks. Furthermore, the study discusses events which challenged the sustainability of the business process of the organization during the evaluation of the first cycle of the action research. The second cycle discusses challenges in shift in organizational roles and its impact on the subject company.
