Summary: | Current Philippine education stresses change in science. The focus of any change should be on improving student achievement. In attempt to address this concern, development and validation of learning modules anchored in 5E and 4A learning models were established. This action research sought to answer the students’ prior knowledge, views, and understanding before and after using the learning modules developed by the researcher. The study used both quantitative and qualitative method. The quantitative aspect utilized if there is a change or improvement in students’ understanding on nuclear reactions. For qualitative aspect of the study, students’ views about the learning modules were identified based on their responses from the Students’ Journal Logs (SJL) and Focus Group Discussion (FGD). After the implementation for two weeks, it was found that utilizing 5E learning module increased more the students’ understanding on nuclear reactions. Going through the 5E learning module which has 5 phases: Engage, Explore, Explain, Elaborate, and Evaluate compare to 4A learning module utilized which has 4 phases: Activity, Analysis, Abstraction and Application, in this action research, 5E learning module has provided more activities (20 activities), compared to the 4A learning module which has only, 14 activities included in the module. 7 activities difference from the. Based from the qualitative data gathered it has been identified that internet-based activity hindered students’ understanding. |
