Summary: | The study describes and determines the relationship between socioeconomic background and academic achievement of Adamson University Boys' High School students and its implications to vocational guidance program. This study is a correlational research which involves the identification of socioeconomic background which could influence the academic 1 and career choice of the students. The subjects of the study were the Adamson University High School boys registered for school year 1978-1979. The total number of those students were 632. The sample taken represents 20% of the total population. A stratified random sampling process was used to draw the representative proportion of students. Information was gathered from a questionnaire, interview and from the report cards of the students. The conclusions drawn from the findings of the study were: 1. That academic achievement of the students is not determined by socioeconomic background 2. That the father's occupation is more similar to the children's career choice 3. That students choose career without regard for ability, interest or ability to pay 4. That a career guidance program is necessary to help students make realistic and intelligent career choices. |
