Summary: | This study determines the perceived adequacy of the social welfare services provided for individuals with physical impairment in four selected institutions. Specifically, it assesses the perceived adequacy of the services provided in education, employment, rehabilitation, recreation (auxiliary social services), in auxiliary social services (psychological), physical access to public areas, and community living alternatives, suggestions for improvements are asked of the participants of the study.
The descriptive method of research was employed utilizing a validated researcher-devised questionnaire. Respondents were 76 physically impaired persons from selected institutions.
The results of the study revealed that only the social welfare services relative to education were perceived as adequate by the respondent beneficiaries. The social welfare services namely: employment services, rehabilitation, auxiliary social activities (recreational), psychological activities, physical access to public areas and community living alternatives were perceived by the respondents as inadequate. Furthermore, suggestions for improvement were indicated with reference to the services indicated as inadequate. |
