Summary: | With the objective of finding the impact of improvisation on organizational resilience when moderated by centralization, the researchers conducted a moderated regression analysis of quantitative data gathered from surveying 406 family business owners. This was followed by qualitative data from the interviews of 10 randomly selected respondents. Conforto et.al. (2016) defines improvisation as the ability of an individual to create solutions for the unexpected problem that arises. The qualitative and quantitative data were compared and interpreted via pattern matching. It was found that improvisation has a strong and positive impact on the organizational resilience of the family businesses in Metro Manila. However, it was also found that centralization does not moderate this relationship, nor does it significantly impact organizational resilience on its own. This aligns with literary findings stating that there is no universal level of centralization suitable for companies, and that any particulars as to how much centralization is best for a business depends on the needs of each department of the business, or the industry it falls under. The result of the study highlights the advantage in allowing the spontaneous creation of solutions to mitigate the crises encountered by family businesses in Metro Manila, and that regardless of level of centralization, the use of improvisation as a crisis response is present, possible, and effective among family businesses in Metro Manila. |
