Description
Summary:Precision livestock farming (PLF) is a real-time monitoring technology to manage the smallest manageable production unit's temporal variability, known as the per-animal approach in a farm. Developed in Japan and Western countries, PLF was used to facilitate smart and more precise livestock management, and several studies have been conducted to review its potential. This modern progressive method aligns with the conventional hog-raising method envisioned to improve production. Acclaimed as one of the technologies that offer substantial opportunities for achieving a more holistic, evidence-based approach to monitoring and managing the health and welfare of farm animals and the productivity of livestock in real-time, it points towards the great potential to help livestock farmers monitor the welfare of their animals to move toward sustainable agriculture. The research focused on adopting Precision Livestock Farming (PLF) Technology to address the current problem hog raisers face in the Philippines, particularly in the Province of Batangas. Qualitative in design, using a post-positivist approach study, utilized a sample of hograising industry members of Sorosoro Ibaba Development Cooperative. This sample and a group of hog-raising industry players who will participate in a focus group discussion shall validate its results. In addition, the researcher shall conduct a positioning of the adoption of the PLF Technology using PEST analysis for the cooperative and for the hog-raising industry of Batangas Province. The development of the PLF and Support Framework for backyard hog raisers provides the opportunity to experience modern farming through the innovative approach to effectively manage and monitor the health and welfare of pigs with sustainable and affordable technology.
