Summary: | This paper is aimed at exploring the effects of an online training program on physics teachers' competence based on the four components of pedagogical content knowledge (PCK) in science teaching. Nine secondary school teachers participated in a month-long training. Using a multi-method assessment procedure, results show improvement in two PCK components: knowledge about science curricula and knowledge about students' understanding of specific science topics. Improved mastery of subject matter was noted in achievement tests and in concept maps. Increased recognition of student prerequisite knowledge and areas of student difficulties were also observed. Changes in the remaining two PCK components - knowledge about assessment in science and knowledge about instructional strategies in science - were also found, but in isolated cases only. |
