Summary: | Crude aqueous broccoli extracts were investigated for cancer chemopreventive potentials using the Micronucleus test with Mitomycin-C as reference mutagen. The experiment focused on the possible effect of the periof of intervention of the extract, at 48 hours and 71 hours of the 72-hour incubation period. The extract did not exhibit mutagenic properties when used alone. Together with Mitomycin-C, however, the extract did exhibit significant antimutagenic behavior, lowering the micronucleus count to practically zero in some samples. These results bring one interesting finding: that the broccoli extracts have antimutagenic properties but are not mutagens themselves. |
