Summary: | This dissertation studied the behavior and performance of the diaphragm wall used in
the construction of Millenia MRT station, and assessed the current practice of design
and analysis. The lateral wall movement and surface ground settlements are the
primary concern in the design of suitable earth retention system for deep excavations
using top down construction method. Back-analyses were conducted using the
program PLAXIS, which incorporates both the finite element method and the
hyperbolic stress-strain model to simulate the soil behavior. The calculated wall
deflections and ground settlement were compared with field measurement. The
comparisons indicated close agreement with the field data. |
