The lateral wall movement and surface ground settlements are the primary concern in the design of suitable earth retention system for deep excavations using top down construction method. Back-analyses were conducted using the program PLAXIS, which incorporates both the finite element method and the hyperbolic stress-strain model to simulate the soil behavior. The calculated wall deflections and ground settlement were compared with field measurement. The comparisons indicated close agreement with the field data.
