Summary: | 在新加坡近50年来的语言改造工程中,政府在一次次的改革中塑造了新的语言生态,同时也遗忘了那些消失掉的语言。在1960年多元语言源流学校并存的时代,华校生曾经是华人社会中的主要群体,而这些华校生在生活中倾向于使用华语交流。然而,随着英语成为社会的行政语言,再加上政府在校园中所推广的“英语为主,母语为辅”的教育政策,许多年轻一代的新加坡华人英语的能力远胜于了华语的能力。在时代的推进中,这两代国人在不同背景下接收的不同教育也将他们分化在两种不同的语言空间,造成了仅能以华语和方言进行语言交流的父母和在生活中倾向于使用英语交流的孩子在家庭交流中出现了鸡同鸭讲的局面。在这种语境下,家庭内部亲子之间该如何交流自己的情绪?我们是否能够克服语言上的障碍,更清晰地表达自己的情绪? 本研究采用了“高兴”、“孤独”、“伤感”、“怜悯”这四组情绪主题,以此探讨英汉双语学生的情绪表述特征。本研究也采用了Gao(2015)《新加坡双语儿童词汇发展家长报告表》作为调查问卷,以此了解学生的语言背景,并随后通过分析18位受试者在访谈中产出的语料,探讨了新加坡英汉双语者的情绪表述特征,也以此对本研究拟提出的研究问题和假设给予了逐一的回答和验证。 With active language policies put in place since its independence, Singapore government has overseen the rise and decline of languages in Singapore, leading to a dramatic transformation of the Singapore linguistic ecology. During the 1960s, with the multilingual vernacular education stream, many children from the Chinese community would be enrolled in Chinese schools. Over the years, with English being the lingua franca and with the reformation of Singapore’s fragmented education system, many children grow up with a better grasp of the English language compared to their mother tongues. The difference in the linguistic landscape may have resulted in communication barriers between the different generation of Singaporeans – parents who are native speakers of Chinese or Chinese dialects may not be able to interact well with their children who have a better grasp of English than their Chinese. This has led us to pause and reflect if such language barriers would hinder emotion exchanges or expressing emotions. How can we overcome language barriers to better express our emotions? To answer this question, this study aims to explore the characteristics of emotion expressions used by Singapore university students of English-Mandarin bilinguals by analysing their emotion expressions used under the four different emotion themes of “Happiness”, “Sadness”, “loneliness” and “Sympathy”. This study also made use of Gao’s (2015) “Parent Report Form for bilingual development studies in Singapore” as questionnaire to determine the language background of the students. Through the analysis of the participants’ responses in the interview, the study evaluated the characteristics of emotion expressions used by the bilingual university students and answered the research questions raised. |
