Summary:Tourism translation is an exciting but somewhat understudied aspect of applied translation studies. Given the ravaging effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on the travel sector, as well as the less-than-stellar reputation of museums in China as whole, the need to produce good quality translations now becomes even more pressing. Amid the long-standing debate over whether the foreignization or domestication approach should be primarily adopted in tourism translation, the evidence points clearly to the latter, in the context of this case study. Upon analysing certain characteristics of the ST (as well as Chinese texts in general), a set of translation strategies (under seven different scenarios) is proposed. For instance, when too many examples are listed in the ST, it would be wise to reduce only to the most important examples in the TT, in order to improve readability. In all cases, the end goal is to write the TT in a manner that appeals to the TT reader as much as possible. Ultimately, this capstone paper aims to draw attention to this overlooked area and make a timely contribution in this regard.
