Description
Since the introduction of the internet into China, the spread and the way public spreads and talk about social events has changed. Weibo has become an important venue for public opinion in this new media era where the public expresses their personal opinions and views. Under the Chinese government’s network control in addition to China’s online environment, public opinion on the microblogging platform has generated several key reactions, which are specific to China. With the introduction and use of the internet, users can speak freely through the big screen, allowing them to express their true thoughts on a topic as well as communicating with other users. Weibo allows immediate information to appear on the platform as soon as it happens, because although Weibo has the ability to control certain events and comments, it does not have a system of prior censorship, so users get timely information through Weibo and express their emotions and opinions in their own different reactions. Hence, events and topics are spread and public opinion is gradually generated, and the nature of the public opinion reactions leads to the development of public opinion. It therefore contributes to some effects and influences to a certain extent. This study therefore aims to explore the reactions of microblogging public opinion to typical online events, and argues that they can be categorised into a few main characteristics, and then, after further understanding these characteristics of Chinese microblogging-specific reactions, to summarise the effects of these characteristics. It is also hoped that this study will lead to the conclusion that Chinese society has its own unique reaction characteristics when reacting to events.
