The best known among the trilogy is The Girl with The Dragon Tattoo (2008), which was adapted twice into a film. The Chinese translation was first published in Taiwan and remains the only translated version in the Chinese community. With the unique style and bold theme of the novel, as well as the great popularity of the film, the Chinese translation also has a very high influence. Unfortunately, most of the past research only evaluate the portrayals of females and film techniques, and there has been a lack of analysis on the translated text. In fact, the Chinese translation have had a key influence on how the readers understand the feminism that is carried through the “Millennium Trilogy” series. Although the women in the "Millennium Trilogy" are victims, they show a strong sense of femininity and independence through their incomparable courage and wisdom. Women themselves are their source of power. They will never depend on men and wait to be rescued. Most of the women in the novel are strong and independent. They are remarkably adroit and hate injustice like poison. They will never compromise on the injustice of society and the misogyny of the male-dominated society. The translation and academic field have paid little attention to the omission and rewriting of the Chinese translation, resulting the failure to convey the female discourse in the English translation. From the gender perspective, the translator not only weakens the feminism of the English translation, but also invisibly exploits the gender rights of female characters. In this point of view, this paper analyses the differences between the English and the Chinese translation and points out the deviation and lost in gender discourse on the Chinese translation.
