Description
Summary:The Final Year Project, dynamic simulation of the motions of a four-wheeled vehicle, aims to develop a methodology to construct an accident scene at a low cost and with high accuracy. Computer simulation is a good method to achieve this due to its low cost (a single computer), and high accuracy (real-physics simulation). Three software systems are used and tested in this project: Solidworks, COSMOSMotion, and RecurDyn. A car model and road model are built up in Solidworks and simulation is done using COSMOSMotion and RecurDyn. The simulation has gone through three phases: testing of a single model by passing a road curb at different velocities; simulation of head-on collision simulation by two cars; and testing of a model with a passive suspension system by running it over uneven road surface. From the testing, the car models show behaviors of jumping and bumping under high velocity and bad road conditions. The model with a passive suspension shows that the spring length varies while the model is moving.
