Kinetic study of MOF crystallisation

The objective of this project is to study the crystallization process of Metal organic Framework 5, MOF-5. Experiments were set up and conducted to track the crystallization process in situ. The results obtained can be used to control the size and morphology of the MOF-5 crystals in membranes forms...

Experiments were set up and conducted to track the crystallization process in situ. The results obtained can be used to control the size and morphology of the MOF-5 crystals in membranes forms which has wider applications. Two important parameters were selected for detailed studies, namely, the number of water molecules in the zinc nitrate source and also solvent volume. The effect of other parameters will be discussed as well. This report will highlight the literature research on the MOF-5 synthesis methods, the effects of selected parameters on MOF-5 crystallization and also on synthesis of MOF-5 membranes. In addition, research methodology and experimental steps will be discussed in detail. Characterizations of the MOF-5 crystals and membranes were done for all the samples and the results and conclusions will also be presented in this report. The challenges the student faced and the solutions proposed will be reflected in the report as well.
