Summary: | The human foot is complex in geometry and structure, and it is considered a marvel of
evolutionary engineering. However, the human foot is prone to injury and disorders. A
study of the interaction of forces within the foot will go a long way in countering some
common foot problems.
The objective of this project is to model an entire foot, from phalanges to the talus. Then,
FEM analysis will be done on the model.
Raw data sets are obtained from the Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine
(DICOM). These data sets are then rendered into a cloud of points (.stl format) using
ScanIP. Then, CATIA was used to generate the surface and volume of the model from
the cloud of points. Finally, the generated volume is imported into ANSYS for further
refinement to the model and FEM analysis.
A simulation of a “tip-toe” is done on the model.
Results prove that the model developed was not a satisfactory replication of the human
foot. |
