Description
Summary:In the highly complex and rapidly changing business environment of the new economy, organizations undertake repeated restructuring and downsizing to stay relevant and increase competitiveness. However with core competence of organizations being increasingly linked to the knowledge, skills and abilities of its employees, organizations have to examine the long-term effects of restructuring on employee-employer relationship. To counter job insecurity arising from restructuring, employees are adopting career resilience strategies and protean careers. In future, organizations must therefore devise strategies that fulfill the contradicting demands for restructuring and retaining core employees. This study confirmed the validity of the approach of defining core employees as crucial to an employee retention strategy.
