Summary: | By combining renewable power generators and energy storage systems, the output power from such a power generating station becomes much more controllable. In this project, the energy storage medium is in the form of hydrogen. It is intended that the resulting system will lead to an increased capacity utilization of the transmission-distribution system. Furthermore, it will reduce the amount of spinning and standby power reserve needed to mitigate system frequency and voltage excursions due to the variations in the renewable power output. However, compared with normal power generators, the hydrogen-renewable energy power generators still have some characteristics not so readily obvious. In fact, the effect of such generation on network frequency shall be the focus of this investigation.
In this project, a simple load frequency control block of the powers system is first constructed wherein a hydrogen-renewable energy power generator is included. From the model, it is shown how stability of load frequency control can be analyzed based on the developed model. Further simulation result shows that by the appropriate selection of suitable parametric values for the load-frequency controller, network frequency can maintain stability even under larger load change. |
