Summary: | For this project “Design and Develop a Device”, the author decided on taking up the task to create a device that could jump. The primary objective was to build a prototype that could vertically jump as high as possible. Towards the end of the course of the project, the author explored the possibilities of the prototype performing a diagonal jump for application purposes.
The author began the project by studying the prototypes completed by his predecessors and identified some of the underlying reasons why the results were not desirable. By avoiding similar mistakes, the first prototype built by the author managed to achieve a jump height of above 4 cm. The prototype relied on a battery powered motor to load a spring which provides the energy for the piston to strike the ground for the jump. Through several sets of improvements, which included weight reduction, increasing the spring force and improving on the consistency of the prototype in performing its jump, the prototype managed to achieve a final jump height of 8cm. |
