Summary: | A qualitative approach was adopted to study the primary type of trust, Cognitive-based or Affective-based, in the Chinese workplace. This study used 10 Taiwanese participants each with at least 4.5 years of sales-related working experience. There were two purposes for this study: (1) to understand the primary type of trust required to getting things done in the Chinese workplace, (2) to explore the dynamics of trust; attributes of Cognitive and Affective-based trust, and the type of trust developed at the initial engagement. Firstly, the results showed that Affective-based trust is the primary type of trust required to getting things done. Secondly, culturally unique attributes of Cognitive and Affective-based trust were identified. Lastly, Affective-based trust was showed to be developed at the initial engagement. Hence this study concludes that Affective-based trust is the primary type of trust in the Chinese workplace. |
