The purpose of this study was to compare the amount of local sports coverage prior to the release of the Sporting Culture Committee Report and after its release. It was hypothesized that the Straits Times featured more local sports coverage in the Sports Section after the release of the Sporting Culture Committee Report as compared to before the release of the report. A total of 308 newspaper articles from The Straits Times’ Sports Section were analyzed from 1st October, 2007 to 31st March, 2008 and from 1st October, 2008 to 31st March, 2009. The results show that there was no significant increase in the number of ‘Local’ coverage even after the release of SCCR. Further studies can be conducted to analyze the quality of sports media coverage in Singapore by comparing the differences in sizes and space taken of the articles.
