Ultra-wideband impulse radio (UWB-IR) has brought a new generation of wireless communication technology especially for a short distance location. With the advantages of high- precision positioning, low power consumption and low complexity implementation, it quickly became popular and widely adopted for wireless positioning system. The first part of the paper is to briefly introduce the fundamental knowledge of ultrawideband impulse radio positioning technology which focuses on signal propagation characteristics and the positioning technologies. The following parts will present the simulation results based on the project research and analysis. MATLAB simulation environment will be set up and tested under different indoor environments using time difference of arrival (TDOA) positioning technology. This project is tailored towards research experiences in analysis, simulation and measurements of UWB signal propagations accuracy in indoor environments.
