Summary: | This research paper seeks to investigate the impact of knowledge, in particular the course of study one is matriculated in on the university level, on framing thinking about suicide from the perspective of sociology of knowledge. I argue that knowledge gained from one’s educational background do shape one’s views on suicide. However, the extent of impact differs for each educational background and this needs to be further studied. In addition, other social factors, such as suicide ideation, experience with suicide, religion and culture, can also influence and shape one’s views on suicide. There are several limitations to this study and further research is encouraged as suicide is a serious social issue, not just in Singapore but all over the world. |
