With the revitalization of China as an economic power, it is increasingly contended that the learning of Chinese Proverbs can play a pivotal role in multilingual knowledge economics. Yet in Singapore’s education system, “Chinese Proverbs” has been removed from the syllabus – “2011 Syllabus Chinese Language Secondary.” The elimination of this curriculum can bring about adverse effects because “Chinese Proverbs” is essentially the cornerstone of the Chinese culture and traditions. As language is connected to cultures, values and traditions, “Chinese Proverbs” serves as a platform for students to be acquainted with their cultures and hence foster a sense of rootedness in them.
