Nanostructured materials have received extensive attention from the scientific community for their unique optical, electronic, magnetic, mechanical, chemical and plasmonic properties that are different from their bulk counterparts. When the size of a material is smaller than the wavelength of light which is in the nanometer scale, its property is strongly governed by its size, shape and the surrounding media. These peculiar features have made the nanostructured materials useful for applications ranging from electronics to biology. In this thesis, we divide our research scope into three main sections, which are: (i) introduction to nanomaterials, (ii) preparation of nanomaterials and (iii) sensing applications using nanomaterials.
