Description
Summary:The purpose of the study is to gain insights into franchising as it is a growing trend in Singapore. This research project addresses the factors that determine the success of franchises in Singapore. It hopes to unravel characteristics that are common to local franchises by segregating the franchisors into three groups -- local franchisors with franchisees in the local market; local franchisors with franchisees both in local and regional markets; foreign franchisors found in Singapore. We also take a closer look at the role of the Singapore government in the development of the franchise concept. Chapter One of the study contains a brief introduction to the research. In Chapter Two, we present the results of our literature search to gain a better understanding of the franchising concept. The research methodology is explained in Chapter Three. The statistical analysis is discussed in the next Chapter by looking at franchising in general, and with respect to the three different groups of franchisors. To give further insights in terms of qualitative analysis, two cases are presented in Chapter Five. The last Chapter summaries the results with recommendations for future research.
