新加坡华语中的倒置双宾结构 = Inverted double object construction in Singapore Mandarin

As a variety of Modern Mandarin Chinese, Singapore Mandarin is featured by Inverted Double Object Construction according to previous studies. However, the construction has not been discussed in depth. This thesis aims to further study how the construction is being used in Singapore. The data of this project is mainly collected from recent Singapore variety shows and public surveys. The analysis of spoken corpus data revealed that ditransitive verbs actually more frequently take only one object, and there is no example where these verbs appear in inverted double object construction. This study also designed surveys that aim to investigate how the construction is used by native speakers of Singapore Mandarin Chinese and whether the use is affected by factors such as verb types and length of the direct and indirect objects. The results again suggest that inverted double object construction is not preferred by participants. Then this study examines data from Singapore National Archives Oral Interviews and indeed found instances of inverted double object constructions. The comparison of the contemporary and earlier stages of Singapore Mandarin Chinese indicates that inverted double object construction may have decreased along the short history since the promotion of “Speak Mandarin Campaign” and bilingualism education policy in Singapore. |
