Summary: | This final year project examines how has Asian representation changed in Hollywood films from the 1960s till today. Modern day blockbusters such as The Martian and Transformers are used as material for analysis. The aforementioned change is investigated through broad themes, characters and visual imagery examined through the lenses of film semiotics by Christian Metz. It postulates that the main reason for this change is the influence of Chinese funding, Chinese box office receipts and government policies. |
