Summary:This paper will look at the past literatures that study port success with regards to area of trade, location and services. Geographical location of a port will be the focus for this paper. Methodology and scope will explain how the study of this paper is conducted with case studies to support findings. The analysis on the importance of strategic port location will be cross examined with trade and services factors to further determine the drivers for port success. Implications, limitations and future research will be briefly discussed to acknowledge any shortcomings of this paper. Recommendations will be given to suggest how port operators can stay competitive and ahead of competitors.
