The fact that a patient repeats previously spoken content shows that the doctor did not reply in a way deemed “adequate” by the patient. Hence, the patient needs to say the same content again. This phenomenon can lead to a longer communication time which may cause the efficiency of a consultation to decrease. Therefore, to gain a better understanding about possible reasons that may lower the efficiency of consultations, various examples of “repetition” found in 6 transcripts are analyzed. The study puts focus on analyzing the repeated contents, the actions associated with the contents, the effect of actions on the consultation, and possible difficulties doctors may face when they respond to patients.
