Yet, it has always been restricted to those who knows the Uyghur language and thus it proliferation was constrained within its geographical location of Xinjiang. With such a limited access, it is no wonder that it has not been studied thoroughly by non-Uyghurs in the world. Recently, scholars have translated Uyghur modern poetry into English and some of the Uyghur poets translated their poetry into Mandarin. This is a significant step for Uyghur poetry to enter the realm of world literature. Currently, Xinjiang is allegedly a police-state and the world has seen many atrocities done by the state against the Uyghurs. This situation is not new, however, and it is rooted in Xinjiang’s history as a border of past empires. Hence, this paper aims to examine the different voices of Uyghurs without and within Xinjiang, to gain a better understanding of their perception of Xinjiang‘s realities. This paper also aims to present the Uyghurs as a collective people and shatter their monolithic stereotype, whether be it a violent ethnicity or vulnerable victims.
