Summary: | This study is an exploratory piece focusing on how organisational culture influences the performance of work in SIA. In this vein, the research question is addressed by two theses - Thesis #1: Artifacts and Espoused values are the foundation by which shared tacit assumption are constructed and these assumptions mainly manifests itself along gender and seniority lines, and Thesis #2: The influence of organisational culture on actions differ between seniority; with culture playing a direct effect of prescribing solutions replicated by junior crew, and culture acting as a tool kit of resources that enables individual actions of senior crew. The research question is answered through a qualitative study using 15 in-depth interviews with current and ex-cabin crew-members of Singapore Airlines. Findings suggest that the extent to which organisational culture influences the performance of work is largely shaped by structural factors such as gender, seniority, and experience. |
