Description
Summary:This research was aimed to study the effects of scenario-based learning management on the problem solving ability and media literacy for grade 6 students. The objectives of this research were: 1) to create and evaluate the lesson plans by using the scenario-based learning to develop the problem solving ability and media literacy of students in the social study subject, 2) to compare their ability to solve problems by using the scenario-based learning during the pretest and posttest, 3) to compare the students’ media literacy by using the scenario-based learning during the pretest and posttest, and 4) to examine the satisfaction of students. The population was 29 students in grade 6, during the second semester in the academic year 2019 of Ban Sansaikongnoi School, Fang District, Chiang Mai province. The research instruments used in collecting the data were lesson plan assessment forms, problem-solving ability test, media literacy scale, and the satisfaction questionnaire. The data was analyzed by using means, standard deviations, percentages, and gain scores. The results showed that: 1. 7 lesson plans were created to teach the scenarios, with 3 hours of planning time per lesson plan. The first plan is about the landslide problem, the second plan is about the water pollution problem, the third plan is about the air pollution problem, the fourth plan is about the soil pollution problem, the fifth plan is about the problem of forest resource destruction, the sixth plan is about the forest fire problem, and the seventh plan is about flooding. The overall quality was at a very good level. 2. The problem-solving ability of students before studying was an average of 12.72 points. After learning, by using the scenario-based learning, the average score was 18.17 points. This was higher than before studying with gain score equal to 74.86 percent, which was at the high level of development. 3. Media literacy level of students before studying was an average of 3.02 points. After learning, by using the scenario-based learning, the average was 4.08 points, which is higher than before learning with the gain score equal to 53.53 percent, which was at the middle level of development. 4. Students' satisfaction with learning by using the scenario-based learning, given after the lessons, has an overall average value of 4.53 which was at the highest level.
