Summary: | KM. Sinabung PT. PELNI is a sea transportation facility that connects Java
Island and Eastern Indonesia Region. One of the activities in KM. Sinabung is
embarkation, which is the process of entering passengers onto the ship. Based on
the results of observations, there is a crowd and physical contact on the
circulation path caused by passengers who are confused in determining the way
to the room or bed. This raises comfort problems for passengers. This study aims
to determine the relationship between the spatial organization and human factors
on wayfinding in KM. Sinabung during the embarkation process.
Wayfinding or direction-finding in a ship is influenced by the complexity of space,
internal human factors, and available information. The method used in this
research is qualitative. Data collection was carried out through environmental
observation, passenger observation, literature study, and distribution of
questionnaires to 103 respondents. Comparative analysis was carried out in
comparing data with Kevin Lynch's theory, standard marker system, and
comparison of human internal factors to descriptive wayfinding ability.
In this study, four obstacle points were found which were areas of confusion for
passengers in determining directions. The results of this study indicate that the
absence of sign system at the four obstacle points is the cause of the embarkation
problem in KM. Sinabung. The solution to overcome this is to expand the landing
area of circulation stairs 1 and provide sings to the four obstacle points based on
the goals the passenger wants to achieve.
