Summary:Water coning is a usual phenomenon occurred in a vertical production well especially in the reservoir that having aquifer underneath. This phenomenon caused by water from the water bearing zone flowing upward to the perforation hole and form a water cone. Water coning causing a deficiency in well productivity because water will be produced and usually, the water production rate is higher than the economical limit. Downhole water sink (DWS) completion is proved to be able preventing water coning. DWS completion perforate and produce water from aquifer, thus creating a counterpoint drawdown in the aquifer and keeps the water oil contact (WOC) more stable. Previous study shows that there is an optimum water production rate for a given oil production rate in order to obtaining the biggest recovery factor. Using a numerical simulation for sensitivity analysis, objective of this study is to find a correlation between the optimum water production rate and several naturally fractured reservoir parameters. This study also evaluates effectivity and performance of DWS completion in naturally fractured reservoir based on the recovery factor. The result of this study is a correlation to predict the optimum water production rate for a given oil production rate in certain reservoir condition for naturally fractured reservoir with bottom aquifer. Then the performance evaluation of a DWS sets in oil production rate - optimum water production rate pair is also attached in this paper.
