One of the methods using conduction and convection is by using the rotary dryer. The general objective of this study was to examine the characteristics of corn drying using a rotary dryer. While the purpose is to examine in particular the rate of heat transfer, mass transfer rate, and tools� performance to calculate fuel efficiency during the drying process. In this Research, the variation of a given capacity is 5 kg, 10 kg, and 15 kg of corn. Meanwhile, the temperature variation given is 40oC, 50oC, and 60oC. Changes in temperature and moisture content of the material were observed every 15 minutes during the drying process until the material is well to be save. Heat transfer in corn were analyzed with a lumped system method to determine the value of heat transfer coefficient (U), the mass transfer was analyzed using Newton's law of cooling analogy to determine the coefficient of the drying rate constant (k), and the performance was analyzed by calculating the means of drying efficiency based on the Law of Equilibrium Energy. The results showed that the higher the temperature given is, then the heat transfer coefficient (U) and the value of the drying rate (k) will be higher. Consecutively, U and k value as dried ranged from 0,0864 � 0,4317 W/m2.oC and 0,204 - 0,684 hour-1. While the value of efficiency during drying ranged around 7,608% - 29,545% which mean the greater capacity of the dried material then the efficiency will be higher.
