Summary: | Despite a number of transnational factors prompting the rise of Korean- Filipino relations (such as the increase of Korean tourist and expats in the country, the popularity of the Korean wave among Filipino audiences and most notably, the increase of Korean-Filipino marriages), there is still a lack of official statistics and comprehensive studies concerning Korean-Filipino families and individuals residing in the Philippines (Son 52-54, 88).
With the growth of KorFil (Korean-Filipino) relationships, the phenomenon of Kopinos (Korean-Filipinos) or mixed-race children being born into single parent families consisting of an absentee Korean father and a single Filipino mother has become apparent in the Philippine-Korean social space therefore, possibly effecting the Kopino psyche and behavior in regard to their sense of identity and belonging most especially in their adolescent years.
The proponents' objective is to produce a 20- minute short feature that could be added into the limited roster of local Filipino-Korean production and, ultimately, help in changing the perception on the Kopino youth through the creation of narrative depicting a Korean-Filipino teenager on a discovery plot to reach out to her Korean father residing in the Philippines and find her identity. |
