Seo, You Jung Despite a number of transnational factors prompting the rise of Korean- Filipino relations (such as the increase of Korean tourist and expats in the country, the popularity of the Korean wave among Filipino audiences and most notably, the increase of Korean-Filipino marriages), there is still a lack of official statistics and comprehensive studies concerning Korean-Filipino families and individuals residing in the Philippines (Son 52-54, 88). With the growth of KorFil (Korean-Filipino) relationships, the phenomenon of Kopinos (Korean-Filipinos) or mixed-race children being born into single parent families consisting of an absentee Korean father and a single Filipino mother has become apparent in the Philippine-Korean social space therefore, possibly effecting the Kopino psyche and behavior in regard to their sense of identity and belonging most especially in their adolescent years.
