Introducing lesson study as a professional development model in the islands of the Philippines

This paper deems to make explicit several issues that surfaced Lesson Study was introduced to teachers, administrators, university instructors, and pre-service teachers in various locations around the Philippines. Using a phenomenological approach, two main emerging issues that pertain to a development of teacher capacities were extracted from the open-coded data. These were (1) Development of Reform-Oriented Habits of Mind; and (2) Ramifications on Institutional Affordances that would allow LS to live and flourish in the Philippine setting. The intent of this paper is to contribute to the ongoing and growing reflections on the transferability or replicability of Lesson Study in cultural and institutional settings other than Japan. © 2017 American Scientific Publishers All rights reserved.
