This paper mainly aims to present the different theories that literacy educators can anchor their research and pedagogy on in order to better understand the psycholinguistics of reading. From the old view of reading as a bottom-up-top-down activity exclusive for or limited to print form, the paper moves on to consider the current theories that explain the added complexities that readers experience when they construct meaning in the online environment. Likewise, the paper turns the spotlight on readers and their roles as they enjoy egalitarian standing with that of the author and the text. |
